City Running Guide
How to turn any city into your running route — navigation, safety, and pacing tips.
Running in a new city is one of the great pleasures of travel. It lets you explore neighborhoods, find hidden gems, and get your training in — all at once. But it requires some preparation. Before you head out: check the hotel concierge or Google Maps for nearby parks, waterfronts, or pedestrian paths. Plan a simple out-and-back route so you cannot get lost. Carry your phone for navigation and safety. Run in daylight when possible, and tell someone where you are going. For pacing: the first run in a new city should always be easy — conversational pace, no goals beyond exploration. Save the hard efforts for when you know the terrain. Pay attention to elevation, road surfaces, and traffic patterns. And always carry a small amount of local currency and your hotel's address written down, in case your phone dies. The goal is adventure with a safety net.
